Reporting to the Senior Economist, you will play an essential role in our distinguished team, contributing to pioneering initiatives that support IBC's regional teams and member organizations.

Your contributions will facilitate change in the property and casualty insurance landscape.

Our team is dedicated to nurturing your growth into a proficient public policy expert, enhancing your domain knowledge, research capabilities, member engagement, and advocacy strategies.

The primary focus of this role is to assist the Senior Economist in all facets of financial sector regulation and taxation legislation.

By collaborating with IBC's Finance Standing Committee and engaging with regulatory authorities (e.g., OSFI, FSRA, AMF) and tax bodies (e.g., Finance Canada, CRA), you will generate background research materials, draft submissions, coordinate working group meetings, develop presentations, and serve as a comprehensive research resource.

Proactively manage IBC's policy challenges by delivering credible research and impactful analysis that will inform policy and advocacy strategies.

Data Analysis:

Retrieve, process, and analyze industry data from various sources to provide a thorough overview of the insurance sector's status.

Research:

Conduct comprehensive primary and secondary research, both quantitative and qualitative, on topics pertinent to insurance.

Writing:

Support the creation of detailed briefing notes, policy submissions, and presentations. The ability to effectively communicate research findings in both written and oral formats is essential.

Policy Support:

Assist in the development and refinement of policy proposals, utilizing data and research to draft submissions in response to government consultations, briefing notes, and presentations.

Respond to urgent requests from regional colleagues and communication teams to facilitate IBC's advocacy efforts.

Collaboration:

Maintain a comprehensive understanding of industry and public policy issues, particularly those relevant to the region you support as a business partner.

Education:

A master's degree in economics, finance, public policy, or a related field is required.

Analytical Skills:

A strong ability to analyze and interpret datasets, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions. Proficiency in quantitative analysis, including data manipulation and interpretation, is necessary.

Excel Proficiency:

Experience using Excel for efficient data management and analysis. Familiarity with key statistical and econometric software tools is advantageous.

Research Expertise:

Proficient in conducting thorough primary and secondary research, including jurisdictional scans, to gather relevant information and best practices.

Communication Skills:

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in crafting clear and persuasive documents such as policy briefing notes, research reports, and presentations.

Policy Experience:

1-2 years of experience working on public policy issues, particularly in economic policy, is a significant advantage.

Experience in the insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries is beneficial.

A solid understanding of policy and economic principles and their application in business and public policy decision-making.

Experience in project management, prioritizing tasks, influencing stakeholders, and taking initiative to ensure timely delivery.
