About the Program
The Okanagan Community Living Residential Service provides essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Our residential program is designed to foster a nurturing environment where residents can thrive. The facility features a spacious bungalow with an adjoining duplex, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. The local community is supportive, with various dining and coffee options nearby. To promote community engagement, residents are encouraged to utilize public transport, although we also have a dedicated vehicle for program use.
Staffed during weekdays and overnight, our team facilitates community-based day programming, while our Home Based Day Service caters to participants with higher needs. In-house activities focus on functional daily living skills, enabling individuals to learn personal care and life skills that are vital for independent living. Our dedicated social services team plays a crucial role in mentoring residents, helping them to discover their unique strengths and foster independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Work autonomously with clients to help them achieve their Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals, providing encouragement during challenges and celebrating their achievements.
- Support and supervise clients with complex behavioral, emotional, and social needs both within the residence and during community outings.
- Employ de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviors effectively.
- Assist clients in developing essential life skills at home, including household tasks such as meal preparation and cleaning, ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
- Model positive relationships and establish appropriate boundaries.
- Transport clients to appointments and engage in recreational and community activities alongside them.
