Job Title: Truck Driver

Join Norfolk County's Roads Department as a skilled Truck Driver to provide essential construction, maintenance, and repair services to roadways and adjacent public property.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of roadways and road allowances to identify areas requiring maintenance or repair.
  • Operate various heavy equipment, including tandem/single axle dump trucks, one-ton trucks, and plows, to perform tasks such as pothole repair, retaining wall maintenance, and asphalt resurfacing.
  • Undertake maintenance and housekeeping activities for County vehicles and equipment, as well as the organization and cleanliness of roads operations yards.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of barricades, traffic barrels/cones, garbage barrels, signs, and other equipment for special events and festivals.
  • Transport construction, maintenance, and scrap materials from job sites and roads operations facilities.
  • Operate equipment to perform plowing, salting, and sanding operations during the winter control season.
  • Set up and tear down traffic control plan measures on job sites and perform flag person/pilot truck operations as required.
  • Complete daily journal, driver's record of time, vehicle inspection reports, vehicle accident/incident reports, employee incident reports, and timesheets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school graduation (Grade 12)
  • Valid province of Ontario Class "DZ" licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Over one year up to and including two years related experience

Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of basic operation of all related equipment
  • Computer experience in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department-specific software
  • Awareness of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment
  • In-depth knowledge of the O. Reg. 239/02: Minimum Maintenance Standards
