This role demands a versatile individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can deliver news content in engaging, efficient, and digestible formats across various platforms.

The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of digital storytelling and leverages diverse mediums such as text, photography, graphics, video, audio, social media embeds, and interactive elements to craft compelling narratives. You will be responsible for generating unique story ideas, collaborating with editors, and utilizing SEO best practices to reach a wider audience.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Produce high-quality news content in various formats (text, multimedia) tailored for digital platforms.
  • Conduct research, gather information, and interview sources to develop engaging stories.
  • Collaborate with editors and other team members to ensure content aligns with Metroland's editorial standards and audience needs.
  • Stay informed about current events and trends relevant to our target audience.
  • Utilize social media platforms effectively to source information, engage with readers, and promote content.
  • Adhere to Canadian Press style guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in journalism or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience working in a news outlet or similar role.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Strong news judgment and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency in digital media tools and platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
