Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a skilled and experienced Directional Drill Operator to join our Utilities team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of our directional drill equipment, ensuring the successful installation of underground utilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate the directional drill in the installation of underground utilities, adhering to strict safety protocols and regulations.
- Operate the directional drill in residential areas, ensuring minimal disruption to local communities.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on the directional drill equipment, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
- Read and interpret blueprints, stakes, and signage to ensure accurate and efficient installation of underground utilities.
- Coordinate and organize daily activities with drivers and operators, ensuring seamless execution of projects.
- Perform pre-operation safety inspections, logging and reporting any issues or concerns.
- Perform general labor duties as required, supporting the team in achieving project goals.

Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years' experience working in the construction industry, operating an HDD rig, specifically a Vermeer D20 x 22 Series 3 or Vermeer 24X40.
Skills and Abilities
- Class 1 (or 3) with Air Brakes.
- Valid Alberta Driver's License and clean 3-year driving abstract.
- Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
- Valid CSTS/Ground Disturbance ticket.
- Willingness to travel out of town if required.
Construction Safety Certifications
- Confined Space Awareness/Rescue.
- Fall Arrest.
- WHMIS.
- First Aid.
