Qualifications and Requirements

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team as an Indigenous Liaison Nurse. The successful candidate will possess current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) and a minimum of two years' recent, relevant nursing experience. Knowledge of Indigenous health approaches, protocol, and cultural issues is essential. Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to provide culturally safe care to Indigenous patients.
  • Utilize sound professional judgment, empathy, and integrity to prioritize workload and maintain accurate records.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, public, and groups to establish work relationships and provide excellent patient care.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Canadian colonization, Indigenous-specific racism, and its impact on Indigenous health and wellness.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and program developments while maintaining a trauma-informed and harm reduction approach.
  • Operate related equipment and software applications to support patient care and administrative tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the BCCNM standards for LPN nursing practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide culturally safe care with a trauma-informed and harm reduction approach.
  • Basic knowledge of health and wellness services available on Vancouver Island for Indigenous people.
