Objective:

The primary goal is to evaluate patients, devise and execute personalized treatment plans aimed at maintaining, enhancing, or restoring physical capabilities, alleviating discomfort, and preventing physical impairments. Additionally, the role promotes overall fitness, health, and wellness.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments of patients' physical capabilities through various evaluative methods, including functional ability assessments.
  • Collaborate with patients to set treatment objectives based on their physical diagnoses.
  • Design and implement physiotherapy programs that may include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, patient education, and the use of electrotherapy and other mechanical devices, as well as hydrotherapy.
  • Delegate appropriate aspects of the treatment program to Rehabilitation Assistants.
  • Assess the effectiveness of treatment strategies and make necessary adjustments.
  • Liaise with referring physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patients' issues, requirements, and progress.
  • Maintain accurate clinical and statistical documentation.
  • Create and execute health promotion initiatives for patients.
  • Serve as a professional role model, showcasing excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to personal and professional development.
  • Stay informed about best practices and benchmarks in service delivery, relevant research, literature, accreditation standards, and policy and legislative requirements, implementing improvements as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in Physiotherapy recognized by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and the College of Physiotherapy of Ontario.
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario in good standing.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in treating patients with musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiopulmonary conditions.
  • Understanding of evidence-based physiotherapy practices.
  • Proficiency in physiotherapy techniques related to the assessment and intervention of range of motion, strength, coordination, tone, mobility, function, respiratory function, and sensation; application of modalities; and the operation of equipment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, even under stress.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using computers within a Microsoft environment.
  • Capacity to foster successful working relationships with an interdisciplinary team to achieve favorable patient outcomes.
  • Effective time management skills to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
  • Ability to engage with individuals in a professional, courteous, and reassuring manner.
  • Conduct consistent with the organization's mission, values, and performance standards.
  • Strong human relations skills, including empathy, sensitivity, and understanding of human behavior, along with motivational and counseling techniques (e.g., educating patients).
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating effectively to perform job duties.
