Under the supervision of the OR Charge Nurse, the Operating Room Nurse will be tasked with evaluating, planning, implementing, and assessing patient care and nursing practices, adhering to quality management frameworks and established protocols.
AORN Perioperative Nursing Program Overview
The American Operating Room Nurse's (AORN) Periop-101 course offers a comprehensive blended learning experience designed to equip nurses with essential perioperative skills.
This program features a 7-week course that combines online learning with practical experience, guided by a preceptor to reinforce skills.
Participants will gain the necessary training to deliver safe and effective perioperative nursing care at an entry-level standard.
- One training position is available for the upcoming training cycle.
- Northern Health provides support for placement and covers tuition, textbooks, and travel expenses for clinical placements as needed.
- Participants should be prepared for a commitment of 6 to 12 months, encompassing both online and in-person education.
- Additional study time outside scheduled hours may be necessary to complete the program successfully.
- Flexibility for practicum assignments is essential.
- Completion of the educational program is required before assuming duties in the department.
- Upon successful program completion, Northern Health mandates an eighteen (18) month return of service in a regular nursing position relevant to the training.
- Qualified candidates will be prioritized for specialty roles; if no qualified candidates are available, training opportunities will be extended to unqualified applicants, with training provided.

- Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant.
- Completion of post-basic training and/or one year of recent relevant clinical experience in an OR/PAR/PACU setting, or one year of recent related clinical experience in a critical care area, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Current immunization record.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
- ACLS certification is preferred.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to organize workload and set priorities effectively.
- Proficient in interacting with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including colleagues, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, and families.
- Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
- Proficient in operating relevant equipment.
