About the Role:

As a Financial Accountant within our Business Services Group, your primary responsibility will be to maintain accurate ledgers, registers, accounts, journals, and similar financial records. You will work closely with the members of the Business Services Group Accounting team and provide support to the Senior Accountant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the financial closing process on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for a portfolio of companies:
    • Prepare timely and precise general journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting;
    • Issue intercompany chargeback invoices for recurring transactions;
    • Maintain, monitor, and reconcile monthly general ledger reconciliations;
    • Conduct bank and other account reconciliations;
    • Analyze intercompany balances and chargeback issues;
    • Prepare and issue invoices to external customers;
  • Assist other departments such as Financial Reporting, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Consolidations to ensure successful internal and external reporting by providing variance analysis on non-complex accounts;
  • Account for property, plant, and equipment (PPE) additions and disposals, maintaining construction work in progress (CWIP) and fixed asset schedules;
  • Prepare and file Canadian and US sales tax returns;
  • Generate and analyze monthly and quarterly financial reports;
  • Provide year-end audit support to auditors;
  • Support user acceptance testing (UAT) on strategic initiatives or software upgrades;
  • Assist in forecasting and budgeting efforts;
  • Perform ad hoc projects as required;
  • Support the integration of new assets and acquisitions into the consolidated accounting and reporting process.

Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines, especially during month-end and quarter-end close;
  • Strong organizational skills with the capability to manage and prioritize competing responsibilities in a dynamic, high-volume team environment;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound professional judgment under pressure;
  • Effective communication skills are essential;
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed during peak periods;
  • Experience with financial systems such as IFS, Blackline, IT2, OneStream, or similar systems is preferred;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in full-cycle accounting;
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent relevant work experience;
  • CPA designation or nearing completion is preferred;
  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles (knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP is an asset);
  • Proficient in MS Excel (including vlookup and pivot tables) with the ability to quickly learn new systems;
  • Experience in publicly listed companies (in the US or Canada) is considered an asset.
