The University of Toronto is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Sessional Instructional Assistant in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences. This position involves supporting the instructional process for a course focused on mathematical proofs.
Course Information:
- Course Title: Introduction to Mathematical Proofs
- Course Focus: This course emphasizes the comprehension, application, and development of precise mathematical expressions, including foundational concepts such as definitions, theorems, set theory, logical reasoning, and various mathematical topics.
- Expected Enrollment: Approximately 1000 students
- Number of Openings: 2 positions available
- Appointment Duration: 50 hours
Compensation: The hourly wage for this position is $52.26, along with an additional 4% vacation pay.
Qualifications:
- Essential: Candidates must have completed several mathematics courses with excellent grades and possess a strong understanding of the course material.
- Desirable: Previous teaching experience is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provide constructive, writing-focused feedback on student assignments and evaluate submissions based on established criteria.
- Engage in monthly meetings with the course instructor to discuss objectives, progress, and feedback.
- Assess and grade students' revised submissions as part of their final portfolio.

Preference will be given to qualified individuals who have advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III, as outlined in the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at the University of Toronto are governed by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement and should refrain from applying for positions under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
