Aquatic Safety Assistant

Part-time Position

The Town of Slave Lake is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to become part of our Aquatics team as an Aquatic Safety Assistant . This role involves assisting in ensuring the safety of swimmers and providing essential care to patrons.

SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS:

None

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute and rehearse safe lifeguarding practices while equipped with the designated facility uniform, whistle, fanny pack, and torpedoes. Monitor swimmer safety, advocate for safe aquatic practices, foster positive public relations, respond to emergencies, and offer basic patron assistance. Support the Senior Lifeguard on duty on the pool deck. Participate in routine customer service tasks. Perform additional duties as assigned. Availability for morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts is required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum age of 15 years. Certification in Bronze Medallion/Bronze Cross. Standard First Aid & CPR Level C certification. Intent to enroll in the NL course within 8 weeks of completing the Bronze Cross or within 8 weeks of turning 16.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and the public. Flexibility, self-motivation, independence, and organizational abilities. Demonstrated reliability and productivity.

Note: The above responsibilities and tasks are not exhaustive but provide a general overview of the role's nature and level of work.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Occasional moderate lifting of equipment and supplies. Frequent transitions in and out of the pool. Exposure to heat, chlorine, other chemicals, and humidity. Moderate noise levels. May involve an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings.
