Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Aide to join our team at Extendicare Canada Inc. in Ottawa. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, servicing, and repair operations to ensure the facility, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds are in proper condition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of routine maintenance, servicing, and repair operations to maintain facility, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition.
  • Observe and monitor all areas of the facility for ongoing maintenance requirements and carry out repairs as required. Document and implement preventative maintenance programs.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs to equipment, including replacing drive belts, lubricating motors and hinges, repairing heating and ventilation systems, and repairing kitchen and laundry equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs to plumbing and electrical systems, including replacing water valves, clearing drains, and repairing or replacing fixtures.
  • Perform general carpentry work and repairs, including installing floor and wall tiles, repairing drywall, replacing doors and door hardware, and repairing roof leaks.
  • Refer problems requiring specialized work to outside contractors and monitor work performed. Provide general assistance to skilled trade persons as required.
  • Adhere to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety, environment, and infection control.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience and/or knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and ventilation systems. Technical training in building maintenance is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret manuals related to equipment and systems.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to read and write English and understand moderately complex oral and written instructions.
