Heavy Duty Mechanic Role

Avoiding waste and promoting sustainability is at the heart of our operations at West Coast Reduction Ltd. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial transport vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and diagnose faults in commercial transport vehicles, using computerized diagnostic tools and other testing devices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems, including chassis, frame, cab, body, engine, and drive train.
  • Review and discuss work orders with supervisors, and sign off repairs performed.
  • Operate engines such as International Max Force, Paccar, Cummins, and work with equipment such as skid-steers, vacuum pumps, hydraulics, and fork loaders.
  • Perform shift work based on company business needs, and work overtime as instructed to ensure minimal downtime of facilities.
  • Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. Policies.
  • Foster a positive team and company culture by ensuring treatment of others is respectful and aligned with company values.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid Alberta Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic Certificate or an interprovincial Heavy Duty Mechanic Red Seal Certification.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Commercial Vehicle Safety Inspection License required.
  • Valid Class 1 Driver's License with air brake endorsement an asset.
  • 3 years of experience in commercial fleet vehicle repairs or similar environment or industry an asset.
  • Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings, and manuals to determine work procedures.
  • Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance.
  • Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily.
  • Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odors, and animal by-products.
