Reporting directly to the Director of Procurement, the Food and Beverage Procurement Manager will be tasked with establishing a diverse array of contracts for food, beverages, supplies, and services across all locations affiliated with Extendicare and SGP members throughout Canada. This role also involves the formulation and execution of corporate policies and procedures. The successful candidate will oversee the creation of national menu and recipe programs, with the SGP menu and recipe development specialist reporting to this position. Success in this role requires a collaborative spirit and a proven history of achievement in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

This position offers flexibility for both remote and in-office work arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of contracts across food, beverage, and non-food product categories.
  • Oversee the food category portfolio to enhance spending efficiency and compliance, while maximizing savings and revenue.
  • Source products and manage the tendering, awarding, and contract execution processes.
  • Administer contracts from inception to completion, including vendor setup and communication materials.
  • Facilitate meetings and conduct business reviews to assess vendor performance and explore new opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain robust relationships with key strategic vendors.
  • Analyze data and market trends to identify areas for potential improvement.
  • Continuously enhance the vendor supply base and develop alternative sourcing strategies to meet organizational needs.
  • Support SGP members in defining product and program goals and resolving issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure timely completion of volume incentives and deliverables as per contractual agreements.
  • Oversee the development of national menus and recipe programs for Extendicare and SGP.
  • Provide culinary guidance to the SGP menu and recipe development specialist and support Resident Care Operations.
  • Work closely with Extendicare's National Culinary Operations Team and Regional Dietary Consultants to ensure adherence to dietary policies in menu planning.
  • Assist the SGP Sales team with competitive cost comparisons for assigned categories.
  • Coordinate with the SGP sales team and vendor partners to organize annual Menu Planning Days for all clients.
  • Collaborate with the SGP Sales and Marketing team to develop educational events supporting the SGP Marketing Program.
  • Conduct regular evaluations of food products to ensure quality standards for the senior care sector.
  • Review new products in collaboration with operations and key stakeholders, utilizing a structured evaluation process.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience in managing food product procurement within a healthcare environment is advantageous.
  • A food industry professional with 3-5 years of procurement experience managing contracts or indirect spend categories. Operational experience in the senior care market is a plus.
  • A University Degree or College Program in business, accounting, or procurement is preferred.
  • Background in the food industry with knowledge of food safety and health regulations.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis is essential.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage contracts from initiation to completion.
  • Strong organizational, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer service focus.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen with a strategic and results-driven mindset.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Able to manage and implement strategic initiatives using a structured approach.
  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to travel as required.
