About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aboriginal Education Coordinator to join our team at Seabird Island Band. As a key member of our education department, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational needs of our First Nations students and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents, staff, and external stakeholders to promote student success and well-being.
  • Provide career counseling and guidance to high school students, grades 8-12, to support their academic and personal goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other education professionals to develop and implement effective educational programs and services.
  • Visit homes and communities to discuss concerns and provide support to students and families.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on attendance and career counseling initiatives to the Principal.
  • Participate in student circles and provide support to students as required.
  • Assist in the supervision of students at school and at school functions.
Requirements
  • Completion of an Undergraduate Certificate in a related field, with a Degree in First Nations Studies being considered an asset.
  • At least three years of related experience working within a First Nations context, with a proven record of building strong relationships with First Nations students and families.
  • Strong knowledge of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education in BC, with the ability to balance competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate well to people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to adhere to an Oath of Confidentiality agreement, Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures.
  • Valid BC Driver's License, Class 5, and a clean Driver's Abstract.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
