Job Title: Chief Operating Officer

Job Summary:

Garden River First Nation Education Unit is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Operating Officer to lead the organization's operations and drive strategic growth. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the organization, including infrastructure, operational controls, performance measurement, and risk management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement business strategies to drive organizational growth and success.
  2. Establish and evaluate operational effectiveness, including operational compliance and controls.
  3. Monitor changes in the portfolio's risk profile and investigate material shifts in risk.
  4. Manage relationships with third-party providers, including the school custodian and data management provider.
  5. Oversee and refine performance measurement and risk management systems.
  6. Develop and enhance reporting tools to facilitate investment management and asset allocation selection process.
  7. Collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer to implement information technology solutions and tools.
  8. Work closely with the Finance Department to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  9. Manage and develop the investment operations team.
  10. Provide leadership, guidance, and support to enhance talent.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of related experience required.
  • Advanced degree strongly desirable.
  • Extensive working knowledge and demonstrated progressive experience in investment or education operations with a focus on endowment management, asset management, finance, or related areas strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Operations, accounting, audit, risk management, or database development and programming experience in an investment or trading operation is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required to effectively communicate and adapt their style with a variety of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess proven spreadsheet and analytical skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, a high degree of intellectual curiosity, and a desire to take on greater responsibilities and serve as an integral member of the leadership team are all required.
  • Demonstrated success in working autonomously and collaboratively in a demanding environment required.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines for short, long, and ad-hoc assignments.
  • A clear understanding of the use of technology in investment operations and an appreciation for the role that it plays in investment decision-making, improved efficiency, and clear reporting.
  • High level of comfort with reading, producing, interpreting, and explaining complex financial reporting documents.
  • Strong quantitative mindset including well-developed spreadsheet and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated track record leading and managing a high-performing team.

Salary: $350k-$400k A year
