The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive medical oncology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology services, along with a variety of supportive programs across its locations. Our facility specializes in the treatment and management of various cancer types, including but not limited to: Breast, Colorectal, Dermatology and skin, Endocrine, Genitourinary, Gynecologic, Head and neck, Neurologic, and Thoracic cancers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Transformational Leadership: Organizes and prioritizes the responsibilities of the patient care team, which encompasses the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy agents, pump connections and disconnections, antibiotic therapy, IV fluid administration, and rapid response to chemotherapy reactions and emergencies. Ensures continuity of care as patients transition through various stages by providing appropriate education and coordinating services. Operates autonomously within the professional nursing practice scope.
  • Structural Empowerment: Actively participates in shared decision-making at the unit level. Responsible for identifying obstacles to patient care and proposing solutions. Fosters strong relationships and partnerships within the organization to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Exemplary Professional Practice: Trains, mentors, and supports team members to guarantee optimal patient care and efficient resource utilization. Accountable for managing and delivering patient care in the designated area. Demonstrates clinical proficiency and compassion in care delivery, utilizing technology, administering medications, performing procedures, and managing emergencies. Evaluates patients' needs for nursing care and additional services.
  • New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvements: Enhances practice by integrating findings and theories from research studies. Engages in or leads evidence-based practice initiatives. Contributes to the redesign of care delivery for the patient population served by the unit or center.
  • Empirical Quality Results: Ensures the incorporation of safety and quality standards into practice and team care delivery. Actively minimizes at-risk behaviors in self and others. Reports incidents through established systems. Collaborates with colleagues in quality and performance improvement initiatives. Documents care in accordance with established standards.
EDUCATION

Required: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred: A minimum of two years of experience in an acute care environment, with a preference for experience in an oncology setting.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Required: Current Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by the patient care area.
