Position Overview:

The Lead Cost Estimator plays a crucial role in formulating precise cost assessments for materials, labor, and equipment required for shipyard construction endeavors. This position entails evaluating contract proposals, bids, and design schematics, alongside overseeing and coordinating projects to guarantee timely and budget-compliant completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment across various shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance projects.
  • Leverage contract proposals, bids, design schematics, and specifications to create thorough and competitive offers, inclusive of detailed cost analyses, material and labor requirements, equipment necessities, and project timelines, in partnership with the project management team.
  • Perform data analysis, cost evaluations, and benchmarking to pinpoint cost-reduction opportunities, enhance estimating precision, and boost overall project effectiveness.
  • Provide guidance on bidding processes and scrutinize and assess tenders.
  • Suggest tender awards and engage in negotiations with prospective contractors and suppliers.
  • Establish and uphold a systematic tendering framework.
  • Implement cost monitoring and reporting mechanisms to ensure precise tracking of project financials.
  • Generate cost and expenditure reports and forecasts at regular intervals throughout the project duration.
  • Maintain meticulous records of estimating data, cost assumptions, and pertinent project documentation. Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations as necessary, showcasing estimates and proposals to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Create and sustain a comprehensive database of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to enhance the estimating process.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, market rates, and technological advancements in ship repair, maintenance, and construction. Conduct economic feasibility analyses on modifications and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Oversee and coordinate construction projects to ensure adherence to specifications and budget constraints.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of estimating experience within the marine industry.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet stringent deadlines.

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time

Compensation: $35 to $65 per hour

Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week)
