Position Summary: This role is offered as a 14-month contract to cover maternity leave. The successful candidate will report to the Accounting Manager and will oversee a team of Intermediate Accountants. The primary responsibility will be to ensure the accurate preparation of divisional financial statements and supporting documentation in accordance with established monthly close timelines, while maintaining the integrity of financial data and adherence to accounting standards.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of lease accounting, ensuring compliance with IFRS 16 standards, including the reconciliation of Right-of-Use (ROU) assets and liabilities.
  • Supervise the accurate recording of fixed asset transactions, including additions, disposals, and transfers, in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Review and reconcile sub-ledger schedules with general ledger accounts, addressing any discrepancies.
  • Oversee month-end journal entries, including payroll, depreciation, and expense accruals.
  • Generate reports for decision-making purposes, such as cash flow analyses and divisional financial statements.
  • Assist in providing data for corporate tax reporting, audits, and insurance claims.
  • Analyze variances in Balance Sheet and Income Statement between current and prior periods.
  • Guide and mentor staff to ensure high-quality work and productivity.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform additional accounting duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in business, commerce, accounting, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in accounting.
  • CPA designation is preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with pivot tables and advanced data management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an asset.
