About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our team at Lakeridge Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Specifying, selecting, testing, commissioning, and calibrating equipment used for radiation treatment planning and delivery.
  • Designing and implementing quality assurance programs related to equipment, dosimetry, and treatment planning.
  • Developing and maintaining databases for treatment planning.
  • Implementing, maintaining, and adhering to the Radiation Safety program in accordance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Providing technical direction, expertise, and advice to radiation oncologists, radiation dosimetrists, and radiation therapists on appropriate treatment techniques and patient dosimetry.
  • Providing imaging expertise for radiation treatment planning and delivery verification.
  • Initiating and participating in the implementation of new techniques and technologies within the Radiation Program.
  • Teaching physics residents, radiation oncology residents, radiation therapist students, new staff, and visitors through didactic sessions, seminars, and one-on-one interactions.
Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in Medical Physics, Physics, or a related subject from a recognized university.
  • Completion of a residency or training program in Radiation Oncology Physics, as demonstrated by a successful residency final exam, or equivalent.
  • Certification in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) or equivalent is desirable. Certification is a requirement for salary and career progression within 2 years of hire.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to various employee groups.

About Our Physics Team

Our team consists of:

  • 8 medical physicists.
  • 3 physics associates.
  • 4 service engineers.
  • 2 radiation therapy dedicated information technology specialists.
  • 1 physics resident part of the University of Toronto residency program.
About Our Equipment

We utilize:

  • 6 Elekta linacs (2 Versa HD and 4 Infinity) in Oshawa.
  • 1 Elekta Versa linac at our satellite location in Peterborough.
  • 2 Siemens Somatom Definition AS CT simulators.
  • Monaco treatment planning system and Mosaiq record and verify system.
  • HDR brachytherapy program using the Flexitron afterloader.
  • On-site at Lakeridge Health Oshawa hospital is an MRI and soon will have PET-CT.
  • Sun Nuclear quality assurance equipment (watertank, Profiler, ICProfiler, ArcCheck, and MapCheck).
About Our Program

We treat:

  • Brain, lung, breast, GI, GU, skin, lymphoma, and palliative patients.
  • Utilizing cones for brain SRS treatment and VMAT for brain SRT.
  • SBRT treatments to lung, prostate, liver, spine, and oligomets sites.
  • Utilizing VMAT, IMRT, and conformal techniques with 6MV, 15MV, and FFF photon beams as well as electron beams.
  • 3D printing for custom bolus.
  • HDR brachytherapy program treating prostate, interstitial, and intracavitary cervix, vaginal vault, and skin.
