The Occupational Therapist (OT) works under the supervision of the Program Manager in a collaborative environment. The OT provides consultation, assessment, treatment, evaluation, and follow-up services to patients/clients, caregivers, and families to facilitate, restore, and/or maintain optimal function in self-care, productivity, and leisure areas.
The OT establishes individualized treatment plans and goals, manages a busy caseload, and uses clinical judgment and decision-making skills to prioritize issues daily. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required to provide education and support to clients, families, and caregivers.
The OT functions as a member of an occupational therapy clinical team and a multidisciplinary hospital and/or community healthcare team. The OT contributes to the clinical education of OT students and related health disciplines and supervises OT Assistants.
The OT is responsible for adhering to Nova Scotia Health Authority policies and procedures and to the professional standards of our licensing body, the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia.
About YouWe are seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent, in Occupational Therapy
- Licensure with the provincial regulatory body, the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia, is mandatory.
- BCLS
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Course (biannual update required)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to facilitate education programs and interact positively with patients/clients, families, other health care providers, and staff
- Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, while effectively planning, organizing, and supervising
- Ability to be flexible and adjust to the changing needs of the service and the program/facility
- Must be able to work alone or with team members in all service settings
- Access to reliable transportation
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Long assignment, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
- Approximately a 12-month assignment
$42.89 Hourly
