POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Retail Sales Manager, this position is tasked with driving product sales and delivering exceptional customer service at the retail outlets associated with the Vancouver Aquarium. The primary responsibility of the Retail Sales Associate is to enhance sales by assisting patrons on the sales floor, recommending products that align with customer needs, and efficiently processing transactions through the point-of-sale system. Additionally, Retail Sales Associates are expected to uphold cleanliness and a professional appearance of the sales area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Exemplifying the Vancouver Aquarium's values through outstanding service by:

Courteously welcoming and assisting customers with product information, location, and recommendations; Accurately handling sales transactions for cash, debit, and credit card payments at the registers; Regularly organizing, cleaning, and maintaining the presentation and displays of the retail space; Confidently and enthusiastically providing general information to customers regarding the Aquarium, Stanley Park, and the surrounding area.

Actively seeking to enhance the organization and its processes by:

Promptly responding to emergency protocols; Upholding safety standards within the organization; Continuously working towards minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainable operations; Actively demonstrating the organization's core values and expected conduct; Performing additional duties of a similar nature or level as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

At least 1 year of experience in a high-volume retail sales environment; 2 years of experience in a customer service role or equivalent.

Skills and Competencies

Strong customer service abilities; Friendly, knowledgeable, and approachable demeanor; Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; Good numerical aptitude; Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and high-pressure environment; Capable of making quick decisions and solving problems effectively; Diplomatic and composed when interacting with the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires the ability to stand for extended periods; Ability to bend, lift light objects, and occasionally use low ladders is necessary; Role consistently involves listening and responding to customer inquiries; Flexibility in scheduling is essential, including availability on weekends and holidays (occasional overtime during peak seasons).

NOTE: Successful candidates must be available to work on weekends and statutory holidays.

COMPENSATION: $19 per hour
