About the Role:

The Manager Health & Safety is a key member of the Senior Operating Team for Canada, responsible for leading the Safety / Training Department in providing training and safety guidance to all employees. This role aims to promote, coordinate, and implement activities to improve and maintain high levels of safety performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, investigations, and policies.
  2. Directly supervise the Health and Safety team and safety & Training personnel at projects/sites.
  3. Develop and maintain a strong safety culture within the operations group and all levels of supervision.
  4. Liaise with Government and Nongovernment agencies to promote Dumas Safety.
  5. Oversee Modular Training Programs to keep all training current.
  6. Liaise with the client's Safety & Management team and visit sites regularly.
  7. Develop and establish job procedures in conjunction with operational departmental personnel.
  8. Develop Emergency Response plans at active project sites.
  9. Oversee Dumas Contracting Safety & Training programs for Canadian Operational Sites.
  10. Provide support and guidance to Joint Health and Safety Committees (JH&SCs) within the Dumas group.
  11. Supply support and collaborate with International Projects & Senior Management Team.
  12. Conduct workplace inspections/audits.
  13. Attend client group Safety Meetings at sites.
  14. Assist operational leadership with investigations.
  15. Facilitate and coordinate Train-the-Trainer and Supervisory courses.
  16. Liaise with various Safety Associations.
  17. Support mine rescue program and training.
  18. Facilitate safety awards when appropriate milestones are met.
  19. Arrange for Advanced First Aid and Standard First Aid Training.
  20. Liaise with vendors and suppliers, Ministry of Labour, Ontario Mine Rescue, WSIB, and Municipal Fire Departments.
  21. Establish a working relationship with clients and other mines regarding safety, training, and emergency response.
  22. Conduct information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings) and arrange for employee training.
  23. Comply with and promote Dumas Safety Programs, procedures, and policies.
  24. Stop & correct substandard acts or conditions.
  25. Commend employee health & safety performance.
  26. Advise workers of the existence of any potential or actual danger to health, safety, and the environment.
  27. Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker.
  28. Work with new health and safety management software to ensure Supervisors and projects have the tools and resources necessary to work safely and effectively.
  29. Facilitate annual safety summits with the safety team to evaluate performance and plan to address current and future gaps.
  30. Promote the IRS ensuring all workers are aware of their personal accountability to safety.
  31. Assist in new project proposals, bids, or safety management documentation requirements.
  32. Communicate HSE semi-monthly and monthly performance report.

Requirements:

  1. Post Secondary School Degree/Diploma in an associated field or equivalent experience with a Minimum Grade 12.
  2. Good understanding & working knowledge of the OH&SA and Regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, WHMIS & Loss Control Techniques.
  3. Accreditation in the U/G Common Core, various mining specialties, and the U/G Supervisory Common Core.
  4. Accredited Safety Auditor (preferred).
  5. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred.
  6. Minimum 10 years experience in U/G mining.
  7. Minimum 10 years experience in a leadership role.
  8. Minimum 10 years in Occupational Health & Safety Systems Management.
  9. Familiarity with the various Common Core programs that are administered through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
