Position Overview
Ottawa, Ontario (Hybrid)
The ideal candidate will engage in the implementation, integration, testing, configuration, and documentation of comprehensive web-based software applications. They will participate in selection, design, and experimental activities related to software that supports Innovation Team projects aimed at enhancing naval platform support programs. The successful candidate will deliver value to operational teams efficiently in an agile and incremental manner, collaborating with business analysts and operational stakeholders to identify challenges and devise effective solutions. Potential solutions may include automating business processes, developing custom user interfaces to facilitate decision-making, and integrating various software systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in user needs and requirements analysis along with software design.
- Experiment with new software stacks for proof of concept and pilot initiatives.
- Develop web application software, encompassing coding, unit testing, and integration.
- Create comprehensive software developer documentation.
- Utilize Infrastructure as Code for efficient and repeatable software deployment.
- Identify and assess software defects, implementing necessary fixes in product releases.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a related field with relevant experience.
Experience/Expertise:
- Proficiency in front-end web application development frameworks.
- Back-end web application development using managed programming languages (e.g., C#, Java) and associated frameworks (e.g., Node.JS, Spring, .NET Core).
- Web application development utilizing scripting languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Ruby) and related frameworks (e.g., Django, Ruby on Rails).
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong coding, unit testing, and debugging capabilities.
- Experience in a scrum/agile software development environment.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code patterns and technologies (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform, AWS CloudFormation).
- Experience with SQL, API creation and management, containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and machine learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Knowledge of data analysis libraries (e.g., Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib).
- Experience in military contexts, particularly within naval operations.
