Key Responsibilities

The University of Fredericton is in search of a meticulous and innovative individual for the position of Chief Officer of Quality and Compliance. This role is pivotal in ensuring adherence to educational regulations and accreditation benchmarks. The Chief Officer will oversee program proposals and contribute to quality assurance methodologies to minimize compliance and quality-related risks. Furthermore, this position serves as a crucial link between faculty, administrative personnel, and various university stakeholders, including external partners. Reporting directly to the President, the Chief Officer of Quality and Compliance will undertake the following responsibilities:

Curriculum Oversight and Compliance
  1. Ensures adherence to all educational regulations and standards mandated by accrediting organizations at both programmatic and institutional levels.
  2. Facilitates and coordinates review processes for the university and its administrative units, upholding standards and exploring avenues for enhancement.
  3. Identifies and addresses risks associated with compliance and quality.
  4. Collaborates with the Vice President of Academics to guide curriculum development committees and foster continuous improvement of curricula across various academic disciplines, ensuring high-quality program proposals and successful outcomes.
  5. Manages resource allocation processes for new programs and educational arrangements.
  6. In partnership with the university's administrative offices, supervises the institutional review of the university and all new program proposals, ensuring successful operational expansion and compliance with necessary regulations.
Policy Development and Implementation
  1. Coordinates quality assurance policies and procedures across academic and administrative functions to promote academic excellence across all programs.
  2. Supports the university's commitment to research and scholarship by developing and evaluating appropriate hiring strategies, policies, and organizational support.
  3. Interprets and updates academic policies and procedures as required.
Additional Duties
  1. Oversees student course evaluations and corresponding improvement initiatives, establishing a data-driven and process-oriented quality assurance framework.
  2. Collaborates with the Provost, Deans, and Program Chairs to manage the overall quality of academic programs and provide guidance and mentorship.
  3. Actively engages in university governance as an ex-officio member of the Academic Council.
Qualifications
  1. PhD or equivalent terminal degree.
  2. Substantial experience in a senior leadership role, preferably at the Dean or VP level, within a complex academic or research institution. Experience in an institution with an online presence is advantageous.
  3. Significant involvement in the approval/accreditation process (academic, institutional, provincial, state, or regional).
  4. Expertise in academic policy and procedure.
  5. Demonstrated leadership capabilities in managing teams and projects.
  6. Exceptional risk management abilities, with a focus on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks.
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective engagement with a diverse range of individuals while maintaining professionalism and sound judgment during challenging discussions.
