Position Overview

The CAD Technician will report directly to the Team Leads and will play a crucial role in delivering precise pipeline layout information for various construction projects. This position demands a high level of accuracy and adherence to design specifications, ensuring that all documentation is thorough and well-organized.

Employment Status

This is a temporary full-time role, operating on a Monday to Friday schedule. The duration of employment will be contingent upon the current project timeline and the anticipated workload of future projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop design drawings, perform quantity calculations, and create as-built documentation for diverse project types utilizing various software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Microstation, Bluebeam Revu, O'Calc, SPIDA Calc, Pull Planner, Civil 3D, Tremble Business Center).
  • Interpret field survey data and effectively coordinate with survey teams.
  • Provide essential calculations and support daily workflows for field personnel.
  • Generate 3D models applicable for GPS and Machine Control technologies relevant to the project type.
  • Prepare engineering and survey plans.
  • Ensure meticulous maintenance of survey records, documentation, and submissions.
  • Read, interpret, and generate Requests for Information (RFIs), maintaining comprehensive records pertinent to the project.
  • Define work scope and deliver layout information throughout various construction phases.
  • Calculate volumes using multiple software and methodologies.
  • Maintain accurate as-built records.
  • Comply with legislative, project, and code requirements, along with client specifications (e.g., Ontario Standard Drawings).
  • Conduct quality control verification on drawings and designs.

Required Qualifications

  • At least one year of experience in AutoCAD drafting.
  • Post-secondary education in Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Geomatics, or a related design field, or equivalent experience.
  • CET certification or eligibility is advantageous.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting CAD drawings.
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD software, including customization of scripts, tools, and menus.
  • Good understanding of civil engineering drawings and site plans.
  • Competent in using computers and software, including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated with a capacity to learn new skills, take on new responsibilities, and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Experience interacting with governmental bodies and familiarity with legislative requirements (e.g., Ministry of Transportation, city permit applications).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Capable of completing basic design drawings, quantity calculations, and as-built documentation for various utility projects with guidance.
  • Collaborate with designers to ensure drawing accuracy.
  • Work with permit drawings and city resources to grasp the complete scope of the project.
  • Liaise with designers and field staff to address challenges.
  • Track project hours and maintain strategic adherence to designated timeframes.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
