Position Overview:

The Firemedic role represents a vital function within a collaborative team setting, designed for a certified emergency responder who engages in diverse responsibilities encompassing fire suppression, medical assistance, rescue operations, and hazardous materials management, in addition to offering non-emergency services to the local community.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Must hold a registered professional status as an Advanced Care Paramedic in Alberta.
  • A valid Alberta Driver's License is required, with a clean record of less than 5 demerits and no suspensions in the past 2 years. (Class 4 with Q endorsement)
  • Capability to perform duties while utilizing a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.
  • Ability to work at heights in various conditions as necessary.
  • Proficient use of all personal protective equipment provided by the Department.
  • Competence in using computers and various software applications (including Microsoft Office).
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is mandatory.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities and a collaborative spirit are essential.
  • A valid Alberta Driver's License (Class 1 or 3) is preferred.
  • Relevant certificates or diplomas in emergency services-related fields are advantageous.
  • Demonstrated progress towards or completion of certifications in related service delivery areas (e.g., NFPA 1001 Level II).
  • Continuous advancement towards completion of certifications in pertinent service delivery areas (e.g., NFPA 1002, NFPA 1072 (HAZMAT Operations), NFPA 1006 (Technical Rescuer Operations)).
  • Preference will be given to candidates with at least 1 year of practical experience in emergency services, particularly in fire suppression, rescue, and EMS, including volunteer work and community engagement.

Affiliation:

The position is affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters, Local 1190.

Compensation:

The hourly wage ranges from $42.59 to $50.11.

Work Schedule:

Full-time employees typically work an average of 42 hours per week, following a rotating schedule of 10, 12, and 14-hour shifts. During the initial training phase, successful candidates will be assigned to a special schedule.

Additional Information:

Multiple positions may be filled from this posting. Candidates must provide proof of successful completion of a physical examination and aptitude test to be considered for interviews. The aptitude test results are valid for two years.

Testing sessions are conducted bi-weekly, with specific time slots available. Interested candidates should prepare accordingly.
