About the Role

The Director, Sustainable Investing and Governance will play a key role in shaping the investment strategy of Ontario Teachers' and driving the implementation of sustainable investing practices across the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement sustainable investing strategies that align with the organization's values and goals.
  • Collaborate with the Sustainable Investing Team to identify and assess material ESG factors and develop recommendations for portfolio managers.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of corporate governance and stewardship policies and proxy voting guidelines.
  • Build and maintain relationships with senior industry and investment peers, representing Ontario Teachers' on external committees and initiatives.
  • Lead the Corporate Governance & Stewardship Team, overseeing talent development and management, succession planning, and coaching and mentorship.
  • Support the development of the Corporate Engagement Plan and collaborate with the Sustainable Investing and Equities teams.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in corporate governance and stewardship, including company engagement, proxy voting, and policy development and implementation.
  • Deep knowledge of global corporate governance and stewardship practices, with good judgment in identifying and applying leading practices.
  • A track record of building long-term stakeholder relationships and addressing sustainability challenges in public markets.
  • Superior communication and influencing capabilities, with an ability to convey complex decision-critical information to varied audiences.
  • An inquiring yet pragmatic problem solver who can identify new ideas and solutions and translate them into practice.
  • Able to manage challenging situations with sensitivity and humility.
  • A thoughtful relationship-builder who can balance productive working relationships with objective risk oversight.
  • An experienced leader who can model Ontario Teachers' values, lead change, and foster a respectful, supportive, and collaborative work environment.
