POSITION OVERVIEW
The HVAC Technician Apprentice - Roving is expected to possess a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and hold a valid Certificate of Qualification from the province where the work is conducted. This role involves managing facility systems, executing preventative and corrective maintenance, and performing routine services on mechanical systems within the assigned facility, adhering to company policies and trade certifications. The HVAC Technician Apprentice - Roving is also tasked with ensuring compliance with established processes and regulations, including environmental, health and safety, security, and fire protection standards.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Installation & Troubleshooting
- Install air conditioning, heating, and associated equipment and components.
- Overhaul and service air conditioning and heating units and systems.
- Repair, replace, and adjust worn or damaged parts of HVAC equipment.
- Adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings as necessary.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with heating and air conditioning systems.
- Install motors, thermostats, and humidistats.
Maintenance
- Conduct work in accordance with established processes and practices.
- Adhere to all internal and external regulations, including environmental, health and safety, and fire protection standards.
- Respond to routine and urgent service requests, performing preventative and corrective maintenance at the assigned facility.
- Carry out regular monitoring, inspections, and maintenance to ensure facility uptime and safety objectives are achieved, maintaining uninterrupted operations and asset integrity.
- Monitor the assigned facility through walkthroughs and equipment/system assessments.
- Assist in implementing a preventative maintenance program, ensuring deficiencies are documented and escalated appropriately.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all assigned tools and equipment, arranging for repairs and replacements as needed.
Client Engagement
- Provide insights regarding facility conditions and deficiencies, offering recommendations for improvements and repairs.
- Participate in and support facility-related projects.
Administrative Duties
- Engage in facility-related projects as required.
- Ensure compliance with corporate and legislative policies, procedures, and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
- Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for necessary repairs and replacements.
- Submit all expenses promptly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Registered with Union Local 787.
- Minimum years of experience as a licensed HVAC/Refrigeration Apprentice.
- Strong adherence to processes and practices related to facility operations and maintenance.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving building mechanical and other system issues.
- Current knowledge of fire, life, safety, and building codes, with the ability to research and apply relevant standards.
- Strong commitment to environmental, health, and safety practices, performing work safely.
- Excellent client-service orientation with a high sense of urgency.
- Effective communication skills for data exchange and clarification.
- Mentoring abilities to support the development of junior technicians.
- Willingness to work shifts and be available for on-call and emergency situations.
- Must be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment.
- Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements.
- Valid driver's license is required.
Certifications and Licenses
- Must possess a valid HVAC Certificate of Qualification from the province where the work is performed.
- Gasfitter I & II license, in addition to refrigeration license, is an asset.
- Working towards Building Environment Systems (BES) Operation Class 1 is considered an asset.
- Facilities Technician Certification from an accredited institution is a plus.
- Systems Maintenance Technician (SMT) certification is also an asset.
