About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Recreation Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing a diverse range of interventions to clients and their families, enabling them to achieve their optimal level of functioning and health.

The successful candidate will utilize therapeutic intervention comprised of treatment, leisure education, and recreation participation to promote physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning of clients. As an integral member of the team, you will provide assessment and treatment plans for leisure opportunities and resources, working with outpatient day treatment programming consistent with the day hospital model.

You will be involved in quality improvement and evaluation activities to support continuous improvements in the provision of Therapeutic Recreation Services, as well as interprofessional team functioning for excellence in client care.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a Baccalaureate degree in Recreation or Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation, and certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist with NCTRC. Experience in working with various populations/disability groups is preferred.

You should have knowledge of leisure/recreation assessments, leisure education, and leisure counseling processes, as well as knowledge of various health conditions and their impact on health and well-being.

Effective counseling and verbal/written communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to set priorities and work independently. You should also be able to establish and promote good interpersonal relationships and select suitable activities.

Hours and Compensation

This is a Permanent Full-Time position, with 75 hours bi-weekly. The hourly rate is $42.01.
