Position Summary:
The Vice President (VP), Institutional Investment Solutions, will oversee and direct the execution of the business line strategy for investment offerings available to institutional clients.
The VP, Investment Solutions - Equity will lead and manage the implementation of the business line strategy for investment offerings aimed at institutional clients. Key responsibilities include product business planning and executing that strategy, leveraging resources across the organization to meet business objectives, and providing guidance and mentorship to a team of product specialists in the institutional sector. The Product Specialists are knowledgeable in the strategies offered to institutional clients, and in collaboration with the VP, they will shape the relevant strategies, narratives, and presentations for that sector.
Operating within a matrix leadership framework, this role encompasses people leadership and coaching responsibilities for Product Specialists within investment boutiques, who serve multiple business lines in promoting the investment strategies under their management. The position is also primarily accountable for business planning.
The VP Investment Solutions will exhibit a profound understanding of each channel, devise suitable people and business strategies, and conduct needs assessments to support product positioning. Additionally, the VP will contribute to the strategic direction for investment mandates, engage in thought leadership, and collaborate with portfolio management teams as necessary.
The incumbent will play a vital role in supporting Mackenzie's global growth in the following areas:
- Product Management & Strategy:
- Formulate and implement business-specific product management strategies for institutional investment offerings.
- Lead both short-term and long-term product business planning, including lifecycle decisions and innovations.
- Conduct competitive analysis to inform product positioning and differentiation.
- Develop and share expert insights on trends within the institutional investment sector.
- Guide Product Specialists in creating marketing materials such as fact sheets and brochures, collaborating with the marketing department to develop compelling narratives for fund positioning.
- Ensure consistent product messaging and positioning through coordination with portfolio management, sales, and marketing teams.
- Spearhead the development of proactive insights, perspectives, product training, and support for sales teams.
- Business Collaboration:
- Share insights from institutional clients with investment, client-facing, and product development teams.
- Act as the client advocate within the organization.
- Cultivate strong partnerships with all functional units to ensure cohesive strategies.
- Provide proactive insights, perspectives, product training, and support to sales teams.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of investment management philosophy, processes, performance, and research nuances.
- Product Development:
- Contribute innovative product development ideas tailored for the institutional market.
- Gather and relay intelligence from meetings with institutional clients.
- Collaborate with product development and portfolio management colleagues to bring new concepts to market.
- Revenue Enhancement:
- Serve as an external contact for institutional clients, including consultants and gatekeepers.
- Develop and deliver training for client-facing personnel focused on institutional products.
- Elevate the visibility of competitive investment strategies within the institutional client-facing organization.
- Create messaging and content to differentiate products and clarify performance.
- Engage with institutional prospects and clients through various communication channels.
- Provide portfolio updates to internal and external stakeholders.
- Understand each channel and formulate appropriate growth strategies and execution plans.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities, particularly in the institutional asset management arena.
- Strong investment acumen regarding capital markets and asset management for the client channel.
- Proven ability to manage multiple relationships effectively.
- Exceptional influencing skills, leveraging strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Strong analytical and narrative-building capabilities.
- Proficiency in French (written and spoken) is highly desirable.
- MBA preferred; CFA designation strongly preferred.
