About the Role
The Quality Control Inspector will be responsible for ensuring the quality of all OSI Maritime Systems products, from incoming materials to final product assemblies. This includes inspecting documented records, supplier quality management, and recording all findings within quality control records.
Main Responsibilities
- Validate all operational process outputs and inspect incoming materials, in-process, and final product assemblies.
- Inspect documented records and supplier quality management, and record all findings within quality control records.
- Make recommendations for suitable remedies and solutions for non-conformities to ensure business objectives can be met.
- Perform quality inspections of all incoming goods to OSI inventory, and analyze production, verify bill of materials, quality records, certificates from suppliers, and test records for completeness and accuracy.
- Observe objectively and validate the accurate assessment of complex and detailed factory acceptance test events on behalf of the customer.
- Perform final QC inspections on all outgoing systems and hardware, which may include detailed objective evidence reports.
- Create accurate inspection records, and document evidence of all inspections performed accurately within QC databases.
- High attention to detail and engineering aptitude, referring to engineering drawings, product datasheets, product descriptions, across a wide variety of product types.
- Ability to tactically and strategically manage supplier defects in collaboration with the Purchasing department.
- Ability to create and effectively communicate Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR) directly to suppliers, manage SCARS through their lifecycle to closure, and proactively work with suppliers to reduce quality defects.
- Ability to identify, develop, and implement continuous improvement initiatives and monitor success with the objective to improve OSI and supplier quality.
- Able to lead MRB process and run cross-departmental MRB meetings, report to senior management on MRB status, conduct quarantine activities on non-conforming products and materials, and initiate preventative and corrective action processes as required.
- OSI process development, process documentation updates, document creation, and process efficiencies will be expected deliverables.
- Has the ability and knowledge to determine defects, and make decisions on non-conforming materials.
- Ability to travel to global supplier sites or customer sites to perform autonomous assessments of quality systems, product quality, testing, and conduct detailed analysis.
Requirements
- Recognized university degree, technical diploma, or technologist with preference given to direct experience in Quality Assurance, QC Inspections, Methods or Process Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronics Manufacturing, Aeronautics, Automotive, or related industry.
- Direct experience in Marine, Shipbuilding, or Military industries is highly beneficial.
- 10+ years' experience in a Quality Engineering role, QC inspection, or equivalent.
- QMS auditor's certification to ISO 9001:2015 or similar ISO series is required, high level of understanding of quality management systems auditing, or other quality assurance fundamentals knowledge being a key asset, including support of QMS documentation, modification, record preservation, and root cause analysis.
- Key Skills: Vision, attention to detail, highly self-motivated, judgment, inspection, proofreading, logic & reasoning, analytical skills, communication skills, interpersonal aptitude, process analysis, objectivity, must be able to read and interpret complex hardware design drawings.
- The candidate must be able to work autonomously, and can identify QC inspection tasks and manage time effectively. May be directed to train other staff, and or act as an informal team leader.
- Demonstrated skills and ability to: Identify defects, problems, and communicate QC results, create records of inspection.
- The candidate must be able to negotiate and prioritize time management with various key functional managers, and operate in different work areas.
- Patient, organized, and methodical, excellent team player.
- Must be passionate about quality, and relentless in its pursuit.
- High level written and verbal communication is required.
- Highly computer literate, and experience with MS-office suite, Adobe, SharePoint, JIRA, PDXpert.
- Able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
