Position Overview:

The Senior Financial Specialist collaborates closely with the VP of Finance, focusing on areas such as dashboard reporting, internal controls, process optimization, and policy formulation. This position offers financial insights to business partners and plays a vital role in various strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Dashboard Reporting and Financial Insights:
    Assist the VP of Finance in generating quarterly consolidated dashboard reports.
    Work in tandem with the FP&A team to ensure the timely delivery of monthly reporting packages, cash flow forecasts, and other essential management reports.
  2. Internal Controls and Policy Formulation:
    Establish and vigilantly oversee internal control policies, procedures, and processes.
    Collaborate with the VP of Finance and the Controller to document workflows and create policies.
  3. Cost Reduction and Resource Efficiency:
    Partner with cross-functional teams to pinpoint and evaluate cost-saving opportunities.
    Develop and sustain financial models to facilitate scenario analysis and resource efficiency.
  4. ERP System Development:
    Contribute significantly to the design and implementation of ERP systems aimed at enhancing operational efficiencies.
  5. Tax Compliance and Risk Oversight:
    Work closely with the Controller and VP of Finance to manage tax filing processes, ensuring adherence to corporate tax regulations, HST, and other governmental reconciliations and remittances.
    Assist the VP of Finance in identifying, evaluating, and mitigating financial risks to ensure compliance and protect the organization’s financial integrity.
  6. Ad-Hoc Financial Analysis and Special Initiatives:
    Support the Finance leadership team in conducting ad-hoc analyses and special projects that address specific business needs and challenges.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a medium to large-sized public accounting firm, along with an additional 2-3 years of industry experience in reporting or financial analysis.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, complemented by a recognized accounting designation (CPA).
  • Proficiency in financial software systems and advanced Excel capabilities; experience with ERP system implementation is advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-driven with a strong desire for professional growth.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines for multiple deliverables.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities and capacity to make data-driven recommendations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and foster positive relationships with team members and stakeholders.
