Job Opportunity

We are seeking a part-time Personal Support Worker to join our team in the Shelburne area. This role offers a competitive hourly rate of $18.00-$23.00.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and protocols at Health Sciences North.
  • Observe and report changes in patients' behavior to the healthcare team.
  • Work under the supervision of a Registered Healthcare Professional.
  • Perform delegated tasks, if trained to do so.
  • Assess patients' health status and report changes to the Nursing Supervisor or Administrator.
  • Provide supportive care according to established policies and physicians' orders.
  • Collaborate with facility personnel as a vital team member.
  • Meet physical, emotional, and psychological needs of patients as directed.
  • Participate in staff development, safety, quality assurance, environmental, and infection control programs.
  • Interact courteously and respectfully with staff, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly duties as per HSN policy.
  • Participate in Fire Safety and Mock Disaster procedures.
  • Document information as appropriate, according to facility policies and guidelines.
  • Answer emergency calls.
  • Adhere to facility and HSN policies and procedures.
  • Report accidents or incidents to the Nurse and/or Manager and complete incident reports.
  • Perform monthly blood pressures and weights.
  • Teach good health habits to patients.
  • Assist patients with ambulation when necessary.
  • Provide emergency first aid/care until medical attention is available.
  • Assist with patient moving in and out when required.
  • Arrive 15 minutes early to review reports and stay updated on patient information.
  • Perform daily housekeeping tasks as per policy and procedure.
  • Complete facility laundry as per policy and procedure.
  • Understand and practice Infection Prevention and Control policies.
  • Work collaboratively and promote a positive team spirit within the department.
  • Maintain a good attendance record according to company policy.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • Attend departmental meetings, inservices, and necessary training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nurse and Manager.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Gentle Persuasion Approaches to Dementia Care (GPA) are assets.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well independently and under pressure.
  • High interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Experience in medication administration is an asset.
  • Willingness to update knowledge of changing regulations, practices, and procedures is a requirement.
  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required (dated within 6 months of employment start date). TB testing is required. Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
