Position Overview: Alpine Canada Alpine (ACA) serves as the national authority for Ski Racing in Canada, overseeing three thrilling snow sports: Alpine, Para-Alpine, and Ski Cross Racing. With a dedicated Board and leadership team, ACA is committed to establishing Canada as a premier ski racing nation, driven by the passion and achievements of its teams. Our goal is to enhance Canadian Ski Racing podium finishes while fostering growth in participation and fan engagement.

We are in search of a detail-oriented and knowledgeable professional to fill the role of Senior Manager, Domestic Competitions.

Reporting directly to the Senior Vice-President, Domestic Sport, the Senior Manager, Domestic Competitions will be an integral part of the Domestic Sport Group. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with all service channels within ACA to ensure that all events are executed with the highest standards of excellence and uniformity across the nation. This role will act as the primary contact for domestic competitions in both Alpine and Ski Cross, providing ongoing support and service.

Key Responsibilities:

The events encompassed within this role include:

  • NorAm Cups hosted in Canada (Alpine/SX)
  • National Championships - SX/Alpine
  • ACA U16 Regional Championships - Alpine

Event Strategy, Volunteer Engagement, and Financial Planning:

  • Oversee the creation of a multi-year hosting strategy for all ACA National Championships (Alpine, SX) in alignment with the SVPDS.
  • Develop an annual events calendar to identify supplemental staffing needs for overlapping events.
  • Lead initiatives to recruit and manage volunteers or contract support for event delivery, in collaboration with marketing.
  • Formulate and execute Event Agreements for all ACA events (excluding Alpine WC and SXWC) in conjunction with the SVPDS.
  • Manage budget planning and execution, working with host Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) as needed.
  • Design and implement a volunteer appreciation program for ACA events.

Host Race Organizing Committee Relations:

  • Annually update the ACA Event Manual for host ROCs to serve as a resource for event delivery and clarify expectations.
  • Provide leadership and support to ROCs as an active participant in pre-event meetings, delegating as necessary.
  • Offer on-site assistance for ROCs when required.
  • Utilize the SnowReg platform to establish a volunteer registration process for ACA events.
  • Facilitate the creation of a volunteer 'National Race Administrators' working group to serve as a resource for race administration development.

SX National Training Center:

  • Ensure the financial sustainability of ACA's National Training Center at Nakiska, including exploring funding opportunities.

Government Grants:

  • Lead the submission process for event hosting grants and maximize support through provincial and municipal applications for ACA events.
  • Complete all responsibilities, including post-event reports for approved ACA grants within specified timelines.
  • Conduct financial reconciliations with all event ROCs and distribute grant funds accordingly.

Equipment Management:

  • Take charge of developing and implementing an event equipment strategy.

Competition Scheduling:

  • Collaborate with ACA Sport Development staff, athletic staff, and PTSOs to create both short-term and long-term competition calendars for NAC, FIS, and ACA championships in Alpine and SX.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a full-time position requiring seasonal domestic travel.
  • Significant outdoor work in winter conditions is expected.
  • Physical activities may include lifting, walking, and skiing.
  • Overtime may be necessary during peak periods, to be compensated as time in lieu with SVPDS approval.
  • Position reports to the Calgary Head Office.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel and Teams.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to engage with internal and external partners, including international coaches and organizations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Exhibit qualities of empathy, patience, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrated time management and change management capabilities.
  • Ability to quickly gain proficiency in FIS rules, documents, and competition quotas.
  • Understanding of the Canadian sport system is advantageous.
  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French is a plus.

The candidate must also demonstrate excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a proven track record of achieving results in complex environments. Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications is essential.
