Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a highly skilled Junior Health and Safety Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our HSE department, you will play a critical role in evaluating and monitoring health and safety hazards, developing control strategies, and ensuring compliance with company policies, government legislation, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct safety and environmental audits to identify potential hazards and develop effective control measures.
  • Inspect worksites to ensure compliance with company policies and legislation, and provide guidance on safe work practices.
  • Review and investigate incidents, and develop corrective action plans to prevent future occurrences.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of health and safety programs and strategies, and provide training to employees on health and safety best practices.
  • Collaborate with site supervisors and contractors to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Conduct audits of subcontractor loss control programs and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Knowledge of OHSA: Understanding of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Ability to Take Direction and Learn from Senior Health and Safety Professionals: Ability to receive feedback and guidance from senior team members.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Studies or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years' experience in the HSE field, with a focus on industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors.
  • NCSO, CUSP, CRSP designations are assets.
  • Training in Fall Protection/Working at Heights, First-Aid/CPR, Confined Space, Electrical Awareness, Asbestos Awareness are assets.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal HSE regulations, programs, and standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and other HSE databases.
  • Languages: fluently read, write, and speak in English.
Work Experience Requirements
  • Experience working in the ICI sector, with a focus on industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors.
  • Familiarity with industry guidelines, ESA Code, TSSA Standards, and appropriate CSA standards.
  • Ability to recognize hazards and advise on safe work methods.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and systems.
  • Ability to travel 50% within Southern Ontario.
  • Completion of a Criminal Background Check is required.
