Casual Lifeguard and Swimming Instructor

Job Summary:

The City of Yellowknife is seeking responsible and enthusiastic individuals to assume part-time, casual positions as Lifeguards with the Community Services Department. As a Lifeguard, you will learn and become proficient in safe and proper lifeguard techniques, with a focus on patron safety, customer service, and pool supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to incidents that occur in the facility
  • Participate in mandatory in-service training events
  • Conduct regular checks of the change room and general guard area

Additional Responsibilities for Lifeguard/Instructor:

  • Learn and become proficient in safe and proper techniques in teaching swimming lessons (Lifesaving Society Standards)
  • Instruct and prepare aquatic lessons for children, youth, and adults
  • Evaluate class participant performance and complete progress cards as applicable

Qualifications:

  • Current National Lifeguard Award
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C
  • Ability to pass the Building Standards Exam
  • Excellent customer service skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Award
  • Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Award
