Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Cook I to join our team at Southern Health-Santé Sud. As a key member of our Nutrition and Food Services department, you will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals to our clients, patients, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and perform daily food preparation, cooking, and service operations
  • Ensure safe and high-quality food is served to clients, patients, and staff
  • Exercise initiative and independent judgment in determining work priorities and methods
  • Work efficiently and maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Communicate effectively with staff, healthcare professionals, and colleagues
  • Follow verbal and written directions, and maintain confidentiality
  • Handle chemicals and cleaning supplies safely and effectively
  • Problem-solve and promote safety in the workplace
  • Meet physical and mental demands of the job

Requirements:

  • Proficiency in both official languages (English/French)
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Current Food Handler Training Certificate Level 1 or equivalent Food Sanitation course
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Outlook/Email
  • Knowledge of therapeutic and modified food textures
  • Knowledge of sanitary food handling principles and procedures
  • Minimum one (1) year full-time healthcare food service experience or institutional cooking experience
