We are seeking a skilled Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our team at School District #38 (Richmond). As a Substitute Grounds Service Worker, you will be responsible for performing a variety of physical tasks and working with other trade groups to maintain the district's grounds and facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Perform manual labor tasks such as moving furniture and equipment, removing wall carpeting and floor tiles, shoveling snow, digging ditches, mixing and laying concrete, and low-risk asbestos removal.
- Maintain, repair, and install landscaping around district facilities, including planting, weeding, grass cutting, pruning, storm drainage, and general cleanup.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair adventure playgrounds, and install, repair, and maintain other playground equipment such as goal posts, freestanding basketball hoops, and tetherball posts.
- Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, jackhammers, lawn mowers, and hand and power tools.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment for safe operation and report defects to the supervisor as per district procedures.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks such as keeping equipment clean and adding operating fluids as required.
- May work with or perform duties of delivery drivers or district couriers as assigned.
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
- 2 years' landscaping experience.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving heavy objects, performing manual labor for prolonged periods, and working in various work locations and weather conditions.
- Good mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of correct methods of tree planting, pruning, and general gardening practices.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Creative thinking in fabricating parts or tools.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
- Playground Inspectors certificate.
- Chainsaw operator certificate.
- Scissor lift and elevated platform certificate.
- Fall protection awareness course.
This is a bargaining unit position with an hourly rate of pay of $31.12, which includes a percentage in lieu of vacation pay.
