About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, package, and dispense medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Compound sterile and non-sterile dosage forms.
  • Dispense drugs to inpatients and outpatients in unit dose.
  • Enter physician orders into the system.
  • Work with automation technology and decentralized medication dispensing cabinets.
  • Perform inventory control and record keeping.
  • Participate in quality programs and patient safety initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program.
  • Licensure and registration in Nova Scotia as a Pharmacy Technician (NSCP) required.
  • Drug administration by injection technical permit (Pharmacy Technician) an asset.
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant, preferably in a hospital, an asset.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and special precautions used with chemotherapy are an asset.
  • Experience in unit dose drug distribution systems, automation technology, decentralized medication dispensing cabinets, an asset.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, inventory control, and record keeping.
  • Demonstrated good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical calculations related to medications.
  • Knowledge of the law and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and distribution of prescription and narcotic drugs.
  • Basic typing skills or computer/keyboard experience; skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
