Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team at Ontario Power Generation. This is a dynamic role that requires a strong background in electrical systems, control, and protection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain, and overhaul electrical, electronic, control, protection, and telecommunication equipment associated with generating stations and facilities.
  • Prepare electrical, control, instrumentation, protection, and telecommunication sketches, drawings, and bills of material.
  • Coordinate large projects or highly complex maintenance enhancements related to the installation of new electrical systems or the replacement of existing systems with different technologies.
  • Carry out contract coordination and inspections to ensure effective quality assurance.
  • Assist in the design of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) programs for the efficient operation of the station.
  • Experience in programming and troubleshooting Modicon PLCs using Unity Pro.
  • Experience in networked PLCs related to PLC maintenance, configuration, programming, testing, control systems expertise, troubleshooting field devices alarms/failures.
  • Experience in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), specifically integration, screen, and tag modifications, and verification of end devices interfacing with SCADA.
  • Experience with communications related to PLCs, SCADA, Protections, and Metering to troubleshoot communication failures to networked equipment.
  • Setup, install, program, and connect servers/network switches/modems/routers/gateways. Installation, repair, and commissioning of new network cables.
  • Modify, commission, and maintain SCADA systems in accordance with Regulatory Governance.
  • Commission, program, and perform field testing on various protection relays used in the power industry (GE, BECKWITH, SEL, etc.).
  • Carry out a variety of measurements, including testing of electrical, control, and protection equipment to recognized standards and procedures.
  • Determine generating system reliability and power system production. Develop and maintain supplementary computer programs to facilitate analysis.
  • Participate in studies associated with energy production, load, and capacity, demand management, etc., and provide regular and on-demand reports. Establish and maintain documentation/program files.
  • Perform work protection code (WPC) activities up to the level trained.
  • Provide technical support, advice, coordination, and assistance regarding emerging work, projects, and daily routines, including the development of technical/operational solutions to problems.
  • Prepare and modify technical procedures and standards.
  • Plan, generate, and review reports.
  • Accountable for the health, safety, and well-being of self and others, in accordance with technical/operating procedures and standards, and includes the development of technical/operating solutions to problems.
Requirements
  • Completed High School Diploma or equivalent, plus a 2-year college diploma in a related field of study.
  • Red Seal Electrical Trade Ticket/Certificate of Qualification.
  • 5+ years of experience as an Electrical and Control and/or Protection and Control Technician/Technologist.
  • Preference to applicants with experience programming and troubleshooting Modicon PLCs using Unity Pro.
  • Preference to applicants experienced with practical and theoretical aspects of protective relaying and electrical fault analysis.
  • Work as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with tight deadlines and expected high level of detail.
  • Have exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Days-based position, but flexibility required to work weekends as necessary.
  • Be eligible to work in Canada.
