Job Summary

The Government of Saskatchewan is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Protection Officer to join our team. As an Environmental Protection Officer, you will play a critical role in delivering results-based environmental protection programs throughout the province.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and comment on documents related to environmentally impacted sites, municipal, industrial, and mining operations;
  • Review applications and prepare approvals for the construction and operation of storage and handling facilities for hazardous substances, municipal, industrial, and mining operations;
  • Conduct technical reviews of environmental impact statements for proposed municipal, industrial, and mining operations;
  • Perform environmental inspections to ensure compliance with provincial legislation, regulations, and approvals;
  • Respond to and investigate spills of hazardous substances and waste dangerous goods;
  • Develop environmental policies and regulations regarding environmentally impacted sites, municipal, industrial, and mining operations;
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints.

Requirements

  • Experience with assessment, decommissioning, and reclamation of environmentally impacted areas;
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental issues and protection processes associated with municipal, industrial, and mining operations;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, biology, geochemistry, water chemistry, and inorganic chemistry;
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, agreements, policies, guidelines, principles, and processes relevant to environmental protection and compliance assurance.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and may be required to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends. The candidate must be able to travel to various locations throughout the province and respond to emergency situations.
