Position Overview
The Security Officer plays a crucial role in proactively identifying and communicating potential threats to safeguard the integrity of the company, its personnel, processes, and assets. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently, showcasing critical thinking skills alongside a high level of professionalism and integrity.
As a vital member of the Security Team, the Security Officer will report directly to the Team Leader, Security, and will work on a rotational schedule of two (2) weeks on and two (2) weeks off at the Ekati mine site.
Key Responsibilities
- Engaging in all safety and security initiatives while ensuring that any concerns are promptly reported to supervisory personnel;
- Advocating for the protection of company assets, including personnel, physical property, financial resources, and information, to mitigate risks of loss, misuse, and abuse;
- Responding immediately to security and emergency situations;
Conducting video surveillance, alarm monitoring, and access control functions for high-risk areas; - Identifying, investigating, and reporting any breaches of established policies and procedures;
- Implementing various company policies related to Drugs, Alcohol, Theft of property, etc.;
- Maintaining accurate electronic records, filing, and database systems;
- Assisting in the evaluation of current and proposed security systems and practices by assessing risks, reviewing performance, and recommending enhancements;
Contributing to projects related to emergency response; - Participating in internal audits and searches of personnel, property, and vehicles;
- Undertaking specialized security roles as required;
- Supporting the training and development of new hires.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Experience with standard security technology systems, including video surveillance, access control, alarm monitoring, incident reporting, and related database systems;
- Northwest Territory Security Officer Certification is considered advantageous;
- A minimum of 3 years of experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience in related fields (security, crime prevention, emergency planning).
