Position Overview

The Senior Project Specialist role is pivotal within Westinghouse Electric Canada, a premier provider of tailored equipment, process systems, and engineering consultancy services for the nuclear sector in Canada. The selected candidate will become part of an innovative team that aligns with Westinghouse's mission to deliver clean energy solutions.

The Senior Project Specialist will assist Project Managers and Project Control Specialists in initiating and setting up projects to ensure compliance with Westinghouse PMO governance and best practices. This role will provide leadership and support throughout the project lifecycle, including re-baselining, data verification, internal compliance audits, and consolidated portfolio reporting and monitoring. Additionally, the Specialist will champion process improvement initiatives, including updates to procedures, training for Project Managers and Control Specialists, and the implementation of lessons learned and corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting Project Managers in project initiation and alignment with WEC PMO governance.
  • Collaborating with Project Managers to establish initial project schedules, leading resource allocation and project baselining activities.
  • Facilitating project re-baselining as necessary throughout the project duration.
  • Ensuring alignment of project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) between SAP cost and P6 schedule, maintaining data accuracy to support project Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Conducting regular project audits to ensure adherence to procedures and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Recommending and supporting corrective actions and the implementation of lessons learned to enhance overall portfolio performance.
  • Assisting in the development of procedures and standard practices for project cost-schedule integration.
  • Generating consolidated weekly schedule lookahead reports to facilitate alignment with cross-functional departmental resource planning.
  • Preparing regular schedule compliance reports to monitor trends related to missed tasks and delays.
  • Occasional travel to engage with onsite personnel.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business or Engineering is preferred.
  • Over 8 years of experience in Project Controls and/or Project Management, ideally within the Canadian Nuclear Industry.
  • PMP certification is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Primavera (P6) scheduling.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Strong organizational capabilities.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Ability to develop processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, characterized by clarity and conciseness.
  • A proactive approach to a fast-paced work environment and decision-making.
