Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting drilling and blasting operations in a safe and efficient manner. This will involve measuring and staking out blast patterns, loading explosives, and detonating charges to dislodge coal, ore, or rock.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Measure and stake out blast patterns to ensure accurate placement of explosives
  • Load explosives into blast holes and detonate charges to dislodge coal, ore, or rock
  • Conduct field tests to determine the type and quantity of explosives required
  • Assemble primer charges using detonators, fuses, and other materials
  • Load explosives into blast holes using hand tools or bulk explosives trucks
  • Connect electrical wires, detonating cords, or fuses to blasting machines and detonate charges
  • Handle, store, and transport explosives and accessories in accordance with regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Requirements:

  • Provincial blasting license Class 1 or Class 2 or trade certification is required
  • 5-7 years' experience in drilling and/or blasting
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Compliance with all safety policies and procedures
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly
