Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a registered Dietitian to join the team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. As a Clinical Dietitian 2 - Transplant, you will work within a designated program's self-directed work team, providing a broad spectrum of dietetic services to clients of the Solid Organ Transplant or Bone Marrow Transplant Programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nutrition goals and care plans for clients throughout all stages of the transplant process.
  • Apply extensive knowledge, skill, and clinical experience to provide a high level of care to clients.
  • Participate in the development of dietetic practice guidelines and procedures for the hospital and provincial agencies.
  • Initiate practice-based research projects in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Act as a resource person to other Dietitians and healthcare professionals regarding questions and issues related to the nutritional management of clients pre or post transplant.
Qualifications
  • Current full registration with the College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC) and registration with Restricted Activities A, B, and C.
  • Two (2) years' recent, related clinical experience in a medical/surgical care setting plus a Nutrition Support Certification for Dietitians (CNSD) from the American Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of clinical dietetic theory and practice within a client and family-centered model of care.
  • Broad knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of British Columbia and Dietitians of Canada.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  • Broad knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care.
  • Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care plan, and to respond appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with (both verbally and in writing), and to deal effectively with co-workers, physicians, other healthcare professionals, clients, and their families, and external agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to client/family priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, deal effectively with conflict situations, problem-solve, and to think critically.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and provide effective consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system and Internet, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
