As a Sustainability and Environmental Engineer, you will play a crucial role within the Technical Services Department.

Your responsibilities will include overseeing the local implementation of environmental initiatives aligned with our Environmental, Health, and Safety Strategy, ensuring daily environmental compliance at our facilities while providing technical guidance to other locations.

You will engage and collaborate with both internal and external partners to secure and uphold necessary permits, assess the implications of upcoming regulations, and enhance our community standing.

You will mentor colleagues to foster plant involvement in environmental and regulatory adherence.

This role reports to the Director of Technical Services and collaborates closely with various teams across the brewery and corporate office.

Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation and regulations, such as the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) and associated regulatory codes and standards.

# Responsibilities include maintaining and improving environmental permits and programs, such as:
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plan
Sewer water surcharge application
# Managing provincial and federal environmental reporting, including:
National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI)
Wastewater reporting
# Facilitating investigations into environmental incidents.
# Monitoring the progress of environmental enhancement initiatives.
# Evaluating the current or potential environmental effects of engineering projects on air, water, and waste.
# Identifying and collaborating on projects focused on environmental sustainability, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
# Developing, executing, and overseeing plans/programs related to recycling and zero waste initiatives.
# Supporting critical safety programs, including ammonia process safety management, risk management, flammable and combustible substance assessments, asbestos management, and emergency response protocols.
# Coaching operational teams to enhance environmental performance.
# Leading proactive environmental teams and engagement initiatives.

Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in an environmental role within a manufacturing context is required. Previous experience in implementing water and energy conservation and waste/recycling initiatives is essential. Advanced knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations is necessary. Familiarity with Energy Star, LEED, WELL, and Passive House certification systems is advantageous. LEED AP BD+C accreditation is a plus. The ability to analyze data, identify business impacts, and communicate trends effectively is crucial.
