VCA Canada is thrilled to offer a rewarding opportunity for a dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our esteemed team at the Veterinary Specialty Clinic for Anesthesia and Neurology. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with our veterinarians and support staff to provide exceptional care and innovative services tailored to the unique needs of our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial patient assessments and perform morning opening tasks.
- Administer intravenous catheters, manage fluid therapy, and prepare medications in accordance with established protocols.
- Collaborate with anesthesiologists to formulate and implement anesthesia plans.
- Monitor vital signs, review medical records, and coordinate necessary treatments for hospitalized patients.
- Oversee medical and post-operative cases, ensuring appropriate care including incision management and post-operative procedures.
- Prepare surgical environments, ensuring all equipment is ready and functional.
- Assist during surgical procedures, including anesthesia management and post-operative care.
- Perform diagnostic imaging and laboratory analyses, including bloodwork and cerebrospinal fluid evaluations.
- Maintain accurate patient documentation, including admission records and treatment logs.
- Coordinate patient discharges with veterinarians, ensuring readiness and clear post-care instructions.
- Work alongside Veterinary Assistants to facilitate patient readiness for discharge and conduct follow-up appointments.
- Deliver comprehensive patient care, including feeding, walking, and maintaining a clean environment.
- Perform general housekeeping duties and manage in-house supplies efficiently.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited Veterinary Technician program.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a veterinary technician role.
- Outstanding client service abilities with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative team spirit.
- Proactive approach with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions.
- Demonstrated accountability, reliability, and sound judgment.
- Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
- Able to manage multiple tasks while delivering high-quality patient care.
- Commitment to professionalism and confidentiality.
Working Environment:
- Ability to stand or crouch for extended periods.
- May require lifting up to 15 kg independently and supporting up to 50 kg with assistance.
- Exposure to various working conditions, including potential hazards associated with veterinary care.
