As a Medical Laboratory Technologist I within the Core Lab Services, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality laboratory testing and analysis. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks aimed at ensuring accurate and timely results for patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect laboratory specimens from patients as necessary.
- Conduct laboratory tests and interpret results in accordance with established protocols.
- Prepare various solutions, reagents, and controls for analytical procedures, adhering to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Respond to inquiries regarding test results using approved communication methods.
- Relay test outcomes to relevant healthcare team members through established channels.
- Perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments, including setup, calibration, and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Contribute to the evaluation of technical procedures and assist in developing and refining operational policies.
- Participate in training and orientation for new staff and students, demonstrating established laboratory techniques.
- Assist with data management, including workload statistics, through information gathering and analysis.
- Manage inventory of laboratory supplies by monitoring stock levels and processing requisitions.
- Ensure a clean and safe working environment in compliance with established health and safety guidelines.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Certification from the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience in the field within the last six years, or an equivalent combination of education and training.
Skills and Competencies
- Proven knowledge of laboratory procedures and technical skills necessary for conducting tests.
- Strong understanding of quality control measures and safety protocols.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage workload efficiently.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Adaptability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Basic knowledge of healthcare disciplines and their roles in patient care.
- Competence in operating laboratory equipment and relevant software.
- Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
