Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

The Senior Vice President of Credit within Real Estate Markets serves as the principal authority on credit matters, cultivating strategic alliances to achieve the organization's objectives while concentrating on the most intricate client segment. As the leader of the department, this role fosters a culture of excellence, mentoring Associate Directors to guarantee superior client interactions.

Key Responsibilities

Client Engagement

  1. Facilitates a cooperative atmosphere by collaborating with Vice Presidents to address client credit requirements, contributing to and supporting the SLR updates, documentation, and follow-ups.
  2. Guides the team to take responsibility for client issues, escalating concerns to the relevant partners.
  3. Motivates the team to collaborate with peers to implement a unified client management strategy in accordance with client prioritization and annual review standards.
  4. Available to assist Associate Directors in addressing immediate client requirements.

Client Solutions and Growth Initiatives

  1. Actively participates in industry events related to Real Estate.
  2. Maintains strong engagement and knowledge with key financial and legal partners for complex syndication transactions.
  3. Mentors and influences the team to provide credit solutions that meet or surpass client expectations while proactively identifying further opportunities for product and service expansion.
  4. Oversees the credit renewal process for the region in partnership with Vice Presidents, ensuring an effective and proactive approach that considers varying volumes and the time required for analysis, structuring, documentation, and negotiation.
  5. Collaborates with the CFS relationship team and CAG/GRM partners to ensure timely delivery of credit solutions to clients.

Team Development and Engagement

  1. Exhibits a commitment to teamwork and collaboration by coaching and mentoring colleagues to fulfill the credit needs of all clients.
  2. Encourages team members to maximize technology use in executing client strategies, sales activities, and opportunities, while also building corporate memory for continuity in client servicing.
  3. Engages in workforce planning with the RVP and maintains an active talent pipeline, supporting employees in understanding career paths and providing clarity on developmental activities.
  4. Assists the RVP in delivering credit coaching to all Vice Presidents on structuring complex transactions and introducing improvements in credit processes, policies, and trends.
  5. Continues to build expertise in complex Real Estate credit to support field training and advisory services.

Business and Risk Oversight

  1. Collaborates with Vice Presidents in Real Estate Markets to ensure market credit needs are adequately addressed.
  2. Guides the team to work collaboratively and respectfully with GRM partners.
  3. In partnership with the Portfolio Quality Manager, provides expert guidance to Vice Presidents to resolve complex issues related to ongoing portfolio management.
  4. Exhibits sound judgment in decision-making, balancing shareholder risk with client experience.
  5. Stays informed on all communications regarding changes to policies and procedures, ensuring team compliance.
  6. Manages Single Name Risk Rating (SNRR), Expired BRRs, and SLR processes in alignment with established goals and guidelines, working closely with Vice Presidents to meet portfolio metrics and proactively manage watchlist accounts.

  6. Solid operational effectiveness with a comprehensive understanding of credit management, product and pricing policies, privacy regulations, code of conduct, and anti-money laundering requirements.
  7. Minimum post-secondary diploma or degree, preferably in Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. MBA, Accounting designation (CPA/CA/CGA/CMA), or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
